Abby Polly-Almanza, MS, MFTC

When you meet with her you’ll notice she strives to create an environment where you can learn and grow without judgement. Her calm presence and empathetic demeanor will put you at ease. She’ll walk alongside you, get to know you and your goals, and build a trusting therapeutic relationship in which you can grow.
Abby works with children, adolescents, and their families, as well as couples and individuals to address a variety of concerns, such as child behavior, attachment issues, trauma, developmental delays, parenting, and family functioning. She also can assist with improving communication, processing life transitions, LGBTQ issues, anxiety, and depression.

Abby feels her most important tool is building a strong relationship with her clients, working with the system an individual exists to create long-lasting change. She encourages communication and understanding by actively listening to, validating, and helping each member of a family to feel seen and heard.

Systemic, attachment-based and trauma-informed therapies are some of methods Abby uses when working with clients. She uses the Gottman method and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) with couples, as well. When she works with children and adolescents, Abby uses non-directive play, sand tray, art therapy, and mindfulness to help hem communicate their needs and process their feelings.

Abby earned her Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies as well as her Master’s of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Colorado State University. Prior to finding her home at Heart-
Centered Counseling, Abby worked in community mental health with young children and their caregivers.
