Alfred-John Diamonti, PHD

Dr. Diamonti received a Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling and his doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology, both from Boston College. He completed his pre-doctoral internship in clinical psychology at Tewksbury Hospital in Massachusetts. His education and experience have included working with children, adolescents, adults, and their families within public and private school systems, college counseling centers, and inpatient hospital settings. I began my career as a classroom teacher and school administrator, before returning to school again myself to train as a psychologist. What I loved most about teaching was the opportunity to support children and adolescent’s social and emotional development. My experiences teaching, and in my psychology training allowed me to collaborate with people as they learn new ways of managing the challenges of life and discover ways to develop better relationships with themselves and others. All of this has affirmed a belief in the strength, courage and resilience each individual possesses. I have worked with clients across the lifespan with a diverse range of clinical issues, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, gender identity/sexuality issues, trauma, anger, relationships, substance misuse, and other adjustment, behavioral or mood disorders. I take an integrative, strengths-based approach to helping pre-teens, adolescents, families and individuals, suited to the specific needs of each client by drawing on CBT, ACT, DBT, relational-cultural, and trauma informed work. It is important to me to build an accepting and non-judgmental space with my clients that acknowledges that clients and families are the experts on their own experience. A strong therapeutic relationship is important in order to promote engagement in new and corrective experiences inside the counseling room, which then fosters new ways of interacting with the world outside of the counseling room.
