Alyson Gerdes, PhD

Dr. Alyson Gerdes is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who earned her Ph.D. from Purdue University in 2004. She has been a faculty member at Marquette University (MU) since 2004. At MU, Dr. Gerdes trains clinical psychology doctoral students and conducts research on childhood ADHD and student wellness. She joined the LifeStance (formerly Cornerstone Counseling) team in 2021 and sees clients 1 day/week. She is an empathetic listener who enjoys working with children, teens, and adults.

When working with children who are experiencing ADHD or behavioral issues, Dr. Gerdes works within a behavioral framework. This involves working with the child and his/her parents to identify and better manage day-to-day concerns, such as noncompliance, and problem times, like homework hour.

When working with children, teens, and adults who are experiencing anxiety or mood issues, Dr. Gerdes primarily relies on cognitive-behavioral strategies to improve daily functioning. This involves working compassionately and collaboratively to identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts, change negative patterns of behavior, and identify and use effective coping strategies.
