Amy DeGirolamo, LPC
Amy is a licensed counselor (L.P.C.) and has been practicing in the field for 15 years. She completed her graduate work at Villanova University, where she received her Master’s Degree in Counseling and her Pennsylvania and New Jersey School Guidance Certificate. She is a Certified Crisis Counselor and a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors. I enjoy working with all different kinds of people. I like to work on the obstacles that get in the way of mental health. For the last 15 years my work with clients has focused on personal issues of all kinds: depression, self-esteem, conflict resolution, better communication, adult children of alcoholics, parenting, anxiety, chronic illness, addictions, and sexual abuse. I believe our work doen’t just happen in our therapy hour, but between sessions as well. I am committed to psychotherapy and helping people to change in a supportive atmosphere. I use methods such as Client Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Psychodynamic Therapy to encourage enlightenment and positive change in the therapy process. I am active, informal, and empathic. I use a variety of treatment modalities to help a client feel better, and more empowered. I believe people have many inner resources, but that they come to therapy when those resources are blocked. I am comfortable doing short-term or long-term therapy, either with individuals, couples, or groups. The relationship between the therapist and the client is an important one, and I strive to help my clients feel comfortable so that they can reveal what is bothering them in a safe environment. Clients have reported that I use a good mixture of support and challenge to help them make the changes they strive for.
