Ashley Haynes-Gibson, LMFTA

Hello, my name is Ashley, (she/her pronouns) and I am an Associate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I specialize in working with families, couples, and individuals from a systemic and emotion-focused perspective. I am comfortable working with children, preteens, teens, as well as young and older adults. My goal is to offer you a warm, safe, and nonjudgmental space in which you and I can work together to discover tools that will enable you to build authentic and joyful connections, whether that be within yourself or with others. I believe we all have the capacity for healing and personal empowerment.
I also believe that our strengths and areas for growth are related. When we take an honest look at who we are, we can start to reduce shame, build self-acceptance, and put all of our complexity to work for us. This may include using existing strengths in a new way, letting go of skills that no longer serve us, or uncovering what else may be happening internally that is keeping us stuck externally. While I have some expertise, you are the expert on you.
I draw from a variety of theories and techniques; however, I mainly specialize in Systemic Therapies (like Structural Family Therapy), and Emotion Focused Therapy. I am also trained in Levels 1 and 2 of Gottman’s Couple Therapy, and I use Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Overall, Systemic therapy seeks to reduce distress and conflict by improving the systems of interactions between family members, and can involve parents and children of all ages, grandparents, siblings, partners, friends, and even caretakers -anyone who is important to the family. Even more, Systemic therapy seeks to identify deeply rooted patterns within an individual’s relationships to uncover how members communicate and behave within a system, based on beliefs about their respective roles. Additionally, Emotion Focused Therapy helps us understand that our emotions are key to our identity, and that our emotions act as a guide for our decision making.
