Ashley Haynes-Gibson, LMFTA
Ashley is an associate working toward full licensure under a clinical supervisor. Hello, my name is Ashley, (she/her pronouns) and I am an Associate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFTA). I specialize in working with families, couples, and individuals from a systemic and emotion-focused perspective. I am comfortable working with children, preteens, teens, as well as young and older adults. I specialize in working with foster youth, and welcome families with foster youth, or former foster parents who have adopted out of the foster care system. I also welcome working with the needs of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and the LBTQIA+ Community. I honor the full neurodiversity spectrum, and advocate for mental health care accessibility for all people with disabilities. Seeking counseling is a vulnerable process. My goal is to offer you a warm, safe, and nonjudgmental space in which you and I can work together to discover tools that will enable you to build authentic and joyful connections, whether that be within yourself or with others. I believe that we all have the capacity for healing and personal empowerment, and I also believe that our strengths and areas for growth are related. When we take an honest look at who we are, we can start to reduce shame, build self-acceptance, and put all our complexity to work for us. This may include using existing strengths in a new way, letting go of skills that no longer serve you, or uncovering what else may be happening internally that is keeping you stuck externally. While I have some expertise as the therapist, I believe that you are the expert on you. I draw from a variety of theories and techniques; however, I mainly specialize in Systemic Therapies (like Structural Family Therapy), and Emotion Focused Therapy. I am also trained in Levels 1 and 2 of Gottman’s Couple Therapy, and I use Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Using Systemic therapy, we will work to reduce distress and conflict in your relationships by improving interactions between your loved ones and family members, whether that be with grandparents, siblings, partners, friends, and even caretakers–anyone who is important to the family. We will learn to identify deeply rooted patterns within your relationships to help uncover how you and your loved ones communicate and behave within your system, based on theirs and your beliefs about each other’s roles. Using Emotion Focused Therapy, we will work to help you understand that your emotions are key to your identity, and that your emotions act as a guide for decision making. Using a combination of EFT and Systems Therapy, we can work together to understand what is going on for you and/or your family, and where we can make measurable and meaningful changes that will last.
