Therapist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Brenda Stiff, LCSW

Brenda Stiff, LCSW

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Family and Marital Therapist with over 30 years’ experience.  I attended undergraduate at a Historical Black College & University (HBCU) at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky where I majored in Social Work. I became intrigued with Trauma Informed care when Dr. Wilbur from University of Kentucky U of K) came to our evening class to lecture on treating Sybil as her patient. Sybil became a major motion movie in 1976.  It was a story about a young woman who suffered from multiple personalities or what is now known as Dissociative Disorder induced as a result of direct trauma caused by her mother.  Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder was a driving force for me upon graduating from Kentucky State University to attend Post graduate school at the University of Louisville, Kent School of Social Work. I majored in Social Work with an emphasis in Clinical Psychopathology and Mental Health. Upon graduation I served at Gary Community Mental Health as a Clinical Mental Health Specialist. In 1993 I relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and opened my private practice on the Lake. In 1996 I served as a Psychiatric Therapist in Crisis Intervention and Emergency Services for both the acute and chronically mentally ill population at the Milwaukee County Sheriff Dept. Specific treatment methodologies included but were not limited to Major Depression with Psychotic features, Anxiety, Bi-Polar Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorders that precipitate a myriad of consequences and prevalent predictors, i.e., Substance abuse, Personality disorders that are best treated utilizing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Biblical/Faith/Christian Based Counseling. As most personality disorders are not reversible with psychotropics or psychopharmaceutical medication. My Professor, Dr. Ruth R. Middleton wrote the ACSW examination and had her students accompany her to Indianapolis, Indiana to present it.  Philosophy of treatment includes but is not limited to Individual, Family & Marital and Group Therapy, Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT), or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Christian Counseling and Group that includes Psychodrama/Role Play for Children and Adolescents. Efficacy of the above modalities or Methodologies treat Severe Insomnia, Grief & Loss, Substance and Post Traumatic Stress Disorders.

I am single and have resided in Milwaukee, WI since 1993.  I enjoy hosting, shopping, and producing Christian plays that have a Biblical solution to contemporary problems.
