About Bruce Ruekberg, MD

Bruce Ruekberg, MD, tailors each treatment plan to the client. Dr. Ruekberg believes psychiatric medications and psychotherapy (“talk therapy”) are both valid and effective approaches to treatment. Often, combining medications with therapy will yield the best, swiftest results. Dr. Ruekberg is trained in and use various therapy modalities, including CBT (cognitive behavior therapy), supportive, narrative, psychodynamic therapy, and others.
Dr. Ruekberg believes each person has a unique story to tell. A unique story that is greatly influenced by the person’s caregivers during infancy and early childhood, by family, peers, school, and social environment throughout child and adolescent development. Dr. Ruekberg believes it is critical to review a person’s past life history to fully appreciate and understand why the patient is experiencing symptoms at this time and what has led them to seek help at this moment in time. Dr. Ruekberg takes into consideration all aspects of the client - including medical issues, family and relationship issues, occupational issues, and spiritual issues.
Dr. Ruekberg’s educational background includes a Psychology B.S. degree at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI, and a medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL. Following medical school, Dr. Ruekberg completed a 3-year internal medicine residency program at Chicago’s Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center. Dr. Ruekberg practiced internal medicine for 15 years. Dr. Ruekberg entered psychiatry at the University of New Mexico where he completed an Adult Psychiatry residency and a Child and Adolescent fellowship. Dr. Ruekberg is board certified in Adult Psychiatry. Dr. Ruekberg is also board certified in Internal Medicine.
