Catherine Medina, LCSW

Catherine treats patients starting 12 years old. Catherine specializes in the treatment in individual, family, and couples therapy. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Florida State University in 1997 and earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work in 2000. Areas of specialty include child and adult trauma and associated mood issues. Preferred modalities include the Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) Model, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Catherine has studied and trained extensively in trauma work and believes that trauma responses can be understood, managed, and rewired both physiologically and psychologically so that clients can experience greater happiness and less disturbance in their daily lives. She has tremendous empathy for trauma survivors and focuses on person-centered assessment, treatment planning, and problem-solving in a collaborative manner with clients and their families.

Catherine has extensive experience with adolescents in residential treatment settings, as well as experience with adults in residential and acute settings, community-based mental health care, and outpatient care. She has also trained several student interns completing their Masters in Social Work and is an approved clinical supervisor for Social Work licensure with the Virginia Board of Social Work. Catherine is a Certified Family Trauma Professional.
