Catherine Schwartz, LCSW
As a society, we understand that our physical health will fluctuate throughout life and it is common practice to take steps to prolong wellness and prevent disease. In order to be the most balanced and effective versions of ourselves we must take similar action when it comes to our mental and emotional health.
My clinical training began in an inpatient psychiatric hospital for adults suffering from major mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders and personality disorders. Since then, I have worked extensively with adolescents and children in residential, school-based and outpatient settings. I have provided individual, group and family therapy to clients who have experienced significant trauma, abuse, loss, attachment related disorders, mood disorders, anxiety and panic disorders, depression, ASD, ADHD, social isolation, bullying, and low self-esteem. Additionally, I have experience helping adolescents who, as a result of chronic stress, trauma or loss, struggle with maladaptive coping strategies such as self-harm, substance use, and aggression.
I utilize a combination of evidence-based and alternative therapeutic practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), movement and yoga, meditation and mindfulness in order to tailor our treatment plan to you or your child’s individual needs. Whether you are seeking therapy for your child/teenager or for yourself, I am here with you to be an empathic, nonjudgmental support as you tend to your emotional and mental health needs. My role is to assist and empower you to overcome your current challenges, whether it be through thoughtful change, emotional processing, or skills training so that you can improve relationships with loved ones, increase effective communication and enter or re-enter a place of peace within yourself.
