Psychologist and Therapist in Massachusetts, Cecile Gunn, MDiv, PhD

Cecile Gunn, MDiv, PhD

Dr. Gunn’s clinical interests include the intersection of psychology and religious and spiritual issues, including how these show up in psychotherapy, and how traumatic life experiences change or shift one’s religious or spiritual orientation. Dr. Gunn specializes in treating adults with traumatic experiences in childhood that limit or negatively impact an adult’s ability to function in intimate relationships, work, or family settings. She uses an integrative approach to therapy, drawing on multiple orientations including Psychodynamic (Self, Object-Relations), Behavioral (CBT, DBT, ACT), as well as Systems approaches (Family, Attachment, and IFS).
Dr. Gunn completed her PhD in Counseling Psychology and Religion at Boston University and a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at The Trauma Center at Justice Resource Institute in Brookline, MA. She worked at Commonwealth Psychology Associates (CPA) in Boston, MA as a staff psychologist for two years and then opened a private practice in Needham, MA. From 2017 to 2021, Dr. Gunn taught clinical psychology courses as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology at The University of New Hampshire. She is licensed in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She rejoined Commonwealth Psychology Associates in 2020, which is now Lifestance Health.
