Do you or a loved one struggle with issues relating to your identity or sexual orientation?

If so, the discrimination associated with being LGBTQI+ or having questions regarding your gender identity or sexual/romantic orientation may lead to stress, anxiety, or depression. As a queer woman myself, I understand the stigma associated with expressing your identity or orientation, as well as the uncertainty some of us feel as we learn who we are. When looking for a therapist to discuss concerns about your romantic, sexual, or gender identity, it is helpful to find a qualified professional who is understanding of your experience.

Is your child diagnosed with a developmental or intellectual disorder such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or Down Syndrome? Are they having difficulties making friends, completing work at school or home, communicating, or coping with negative feelings?

In today’s world technology can hinder social interactions, and make it more difficult for children and adolescents to focus. It also provides opportunities for creative learning and communication methods. It is important to remember that each person learns and reacts to negative emotions differently, so they have to gain the tools appropriate for their needs. During my experience as a Registered Behavioral Technician in Applied Behavioral Intervention, I was able to build a repertoire of skills to aid with increased communication, academic performance, coping skills, and time management skills.

Does speaking to a counselor intimidate you or make you feel uncertain?

I understand that looking for a therapist for the first time or after a bad experience can be daunting. You have made the first step by looking to see what therapist would be best for you or your child, and I am here to create a comforting experience based on your needs and wants. I have worked with children (3+), adolescents, and their families for over ten years, and am interested in meeting the needs of each individual. I work from a person-centered systems approach. This means that I look at each individual and how they interact with the people and communities around them. By gaining an understanding of everything a person interacts with, I am able to understand what their needs are and what obstacles exist between a person and their goals. I also understand that therapy can be scary for children and adolescents, which is why it is important for us to make therapy engaging and fun whenever we can.

I received my master’s degree in social work from Louisiana State University and my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the College of Charleston. Combined with the skills I learned through my education, I have also received training in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS), Bounce Back, and Psychological First Aid.

My past clients would describe me as empathetic, patient, kind, and understanding. I make it a priority to learn as much as I can to help my clients achieve their goals while maintaining a down-to-earth mentality.
