Christine Ryan, LCSW

Christine Ryan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California who has been practicing since 2018. Christine received her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social work with a concentration in Mental Health. She also earned her certificate in Animal Assisted Social Work through the Institute of Human Animal Connection. Christine received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from the University of Denver in 2015 and applies a sociological lens and social justice theories to her current practices. Christine has been practicing individual, family, and group psychotherapy for 5+ years treating children, adolescents, and adults. Christine’s most recent focus has been placed on treating high acuity children and adolescent populations in a residential setting utilizing Evidence-Based Practices. Christine enjoys working with a wide range of behavioral health issues including depression, anxiety, bipolar and mood disorders, personality disorders, and trauma. She is passionate about mental health and its intersectionality with substance use and trauma. She has experience working with individuals struggling with dual diagnosis. A few of her preferred orientations that guide her practice include person-centered and attachment theory, social learning theory, and cognitive behavioral theory. Christine believes that the client is the expert in their own life and through a person-centered lens aims to provide a nonjudgmental space wherein the client becomes adept at discovering their own solutions with the support of a therapeutic relationship. One of her other preferred philosophies includes a systemic approach; it is through exploring the client’s family, work, and community system etc. or absence of these, that they can process their role within these systems, heal personal traumas, and identify where the client needs more support and connection. Christine also feels that an individual’s behavior is a strong indicator of how they think and feel. Through a social learning and CBT approach, she assists clients in understanding how their feelings and thoughts influence their behaviors and identify the maladaptive behaviors that they want to change. Christine encourages clients to be an active collaborator in their treatment and aims to make each and every client feel accepted, safe, supported, and heard. She utilizes a strengths-based perspective as well as a trauma informed approach in her practice to gain a comprehensive understanding of the individual’s life. Christine’s goal as a clinical social worker is to be an advocate for clients in recognizing how biological, psychological, sociological, and spiritual experiences have influenced their life trajectories. When Christine is not working, you can find her on a hike with her two dogs, surfing the waves in Newport Beach, and spending time with family and friends.
