Dr. Claire Carpenter Phillips is a licensed psychologist who has worked with individuals and families in the Midlands since 2016. Dr. Phillips earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. She earned her Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from West Virginia University, where she worked with adolescents and adults with substance use disorders at the West Virginia University School of Medicine Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry. Dr. Phillips earned her Master of Arts and her Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.) in clinical psychology from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia (APA-Accredited), where she completed practicum experiences at the Marshall University Psychology Clinic, the Marshall University School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, Head Start, and the West Virginia Children’s Rural Health Project.
Dr. Phillips completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Devereux Foundation (APA-Accredited) in Malvern, Pennsylvania working with adolescents residing in a residential treatment facility with disruptive behavior disorders, developmental disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and various childhood traumatic experiences. Dr. Phillips completed her post-doctoral training at the Child NeuroBehavioral Center for Health and Wellness in Augusta, Georgia, where she received an additional eighteen months of training in clinical and neuropsychological assessment of children and adolescents for learning disorders, developmental disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, behavioral disorders, and emotional problems as well as further training in the treatment of depression, anxiety, trauma, and behavioral issues. Additionally, while at in graduate school Marshall, Dr. Phillips received training and supervision in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an evidenced-based behavioral parent training programs for children ages 2-7 with various behavioral problems. Dr. Phillips is a PCIT therapist certified by PCIT International, the governing body for clinicians and trainers of PCIT.
Dr. Phillips is a native of West Virginia and the Appalachian South. She moved to the Midlands in 2014 with her husband, Dr. Wesley Phillips, who is a dentist. She lives in Lexington, SC with her husband and two children. She enjoys cooking, exercise, reading fiction, and traveling.
