Dr. Carrera is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and a military veteran, who currently serves in the Army Reserves. Dr. Carrera served as a staff officer and Aeromedical Psychologist to the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB). During her service in the 82nd CAB, she provided subject matter expertise and consultation to Brigade and Company Command teams on all matters related to human performance optimization, individual and community behavioral health. She was responsible for developing and executing programing for over 3000 Brigade Soldiers with a focus on readiness, suicide prevention, traumatic event management, emergency response and prevention/response of aviation mishaps. Additionally, she provided clinical assessments, special duty evaluations, individual therapy, and multidisciplinary consultation with the primary care team. Dr. Carrera completed her Clinical Psychology Internship and Post-Doctoral Residency Programs at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, GA. As part of her Post-Doctoral Residency training, she completed a behavioral health officer rotation with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. From 2019 to 2021, she was an acting member of the Suicide Response Team and Suicide Fatality Review Board and provided HIPPA training to the Commanders course. Dr. Carrera served as the subject matter expert advising commanders and key staff on human performance optimization, programmatic and policy recommendations to facilitate the integration of services, maximize individual and team performance and reduce risk for suicide in active-duty military personnel. Dr. Carrera has extensive experience in the assessment and selection of personnel in key positions. She supported the assessment and selection of Special Forces, Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations applicants and continues to support the Colonels Commander Assessment Program (CCAP), part of the Army’s Modernization initiative to assess officer’s potential and fitness for command. Dr. Carrera is fluent in both written and spoken Spanish and has extensive experience conducting psychological assessments and therapy to a diverse adult population. She is trained in the evidenced-based therapies of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy among others. Dr. Carrera holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Columbia College University, a Masters in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology, and a Psychology Doctoral Degree (Psy.D) from the American School of Professional Psychology.
