I believe that one of the most important things a therapist can do is offer a place where people feel accepted for exactly who they are. When people feel accepted they are more comfortable sharing their stories, working towards change, and accepting themselves. With the support of a therapist, it is possible to gain a better understanding of one’s self, improve relationships, better manage stress, see things from a different perspective, and replace what is not working with what might work better.

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, NH

Bachelor of Arts, English, University of Oregon, 1999

In my previous career I was a teacher for over a decade. What I loved most about my work was supporting children’s social and emotional development along with partnering with their parents. When I decided to go back to school to get my MSW, I initially thought I would focus only on therapy with children. I spent my first year of training doing individual and group therapy with children at Horace Mitchell Primary School in Kittery. My second year, however, I sought out a placement as therapist in the adult services department at Seacoast Mental Health Center in order to round out my training. I am so glad that I did, because I found that I also really enjoyed working with adults. After graduating, I stayed on at Seacoast as an adult therapist for two more years. I have experience working with people with a range of needs- from those seeking help managing general life stress to those living with severe mental illness. I feel very lucky to now be able to work with teenagers and adults at LifeStance Health.
