Donald Payette Jr, APRN

Donald (“Don”) Payette is a psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner with more than eleven (11) years of experience providing psychiatric/mental health services to adults from age 17 to 102. Don has worked with clients in multiple treatment settings including private practice, inpatient psychiatric treatment, and major medical centers and as a consultant to long term care and assisted living facilities. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Don enjoyed a long and successful career in international sales, marketing, and business operations with Intel Corporation.

Don approach to psychiatric/mental health is anchored in his belief that at any time we are each the product of what is happening in our bodies (medical), our brains (neurologic), and our life stories. The medical science of psychiatry focuses on the body and brain; psychotherapy focuses on our life stories. None of these exist on their own. Each is considered in collaboration with the client to create actionable plans to move toward the client’s definitions of health and happiness. His primary interest is in the treatment of adults from mid-life onward where physical/medical and social/family/career changes can bring challenges while opening opportunities for growth, refocus, and realignment of priorities with the client’s definitions of health and happiness.

Don has returned to Austin where he lived for 18 years before moving to Philadelphia to attend Penn. Don holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with Minor in Hospice/Palliative Care from The University of Pennsylvania. He has participated in medical missions to Haiti, Botswana, and Tanzania. He is a member of multiple professional organizations and has served on regional and national committees. Don is glad to be home and looks forward to reengaging with many long-time friends in Central Texas, enjoying the lakes, and “Keep(ing) Austin Weird.
