Donnie joined Atlantic Counseling Group in 2014 as a Group Facilitator for Men’s Domestic Violence program. It quickly became his passion as he sees himself as helping bring real and lasting change to men’s lives.
The batterer intervention program at Atlantic Counseling is a state certified program that incorporates psycho-educational learning, strategies and techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). The program is an acceptance-based, trauma-informed treatment program with a strong emphasis on mindfulness training. Clients are challenged to identify and override harmful thinking patterns and begin to address old wounds that contribute to those thinking patterns. This program promotes healthy boundaries, assertiveness skills, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, cognitive processing, empathy, effective parenting, and strong emphasis on healthy relationship skills.
In 2019 Donnie began facilitating Anger Management (AM) groups. The AM groups provide psycho educational training on such topics as identifying anger triggers, anger management skills, emotional intelligence, cognitive processing, conflict resolution and cognitive distortions.
As a group facilitator Donnie strives to challenge clients to identify and override harmful relational habits and learn new healthy coping skills. He brings the innate able to quickly connect with the clients on their level and form a healthy relationship using empathy, compassion and acceptance. He believes in a collaborative, supportive, and problem-solving approach to bringing lasting change to the members of his groups.
Donnie has received training as a marriage coach, premarital coach, and as a marriage mentor from Professional Christian Coaching Institute. As a marriage coach the client is the focus: their needs, the issue’s they want to work on and helping them discover what they are motivated to change. He empowers the client to work on the issues that are most important to them. He helps clients focus on the development of goals and action steps necessary to achieve those goals.
