Foster Stroup, LRC

Supervised By: Tracey Lee

Foster provides services for adolescents, individuals, couples, and families. His primary goal is to create an environment in which the client(s) feel comfortable, safe, and understood in order to discuss, process, and explore past, present, and future thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and how they affect the self. He works with clients to address problems and goals they are working to overcome or achieve as well as develop skills to better cope, problem solve, and/or discover more positive aspects of life.

As a person-centered therapist his primary goal is to meet each client where they are at in their life and work to form a collaborative therapeutic relationship. When working with clients, Foster primarily utilizes techniques from Gestalt Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and Positive Psychology in order to work with clients in a holistic manner. He has clinical experience working with and helping clients experiencing anxiety, depression, relational issues, life/occupational stressors, sexual and/or gender identity stressors, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma, substance abuse disorder and other addiction-based stressors.

Foster completed his master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Marymount University and is working on his licensure to become an LPC. Before receiving his master’s, Foster studied psychology, counseling, and neuroscience at Wake Forest University. He hopes to offer every client a productive and safe therapeutic space that introduces them to the field of mental health and self-exploration. It is his belief that therapy is a critical component to assisting any person, no matter their culture and/or beliefs, to discover more about each part of their self and how those parts interact with and affect the whole self.
