Dr. Ramakrishnan’s core approach is to support clients in tuning into their own inner voice, their own intuition, and the guidance of their own emotions, which she believes are important to discovering one’s path. She believes that the identification of meaning and purpose are important to living an enjoyable life, and often works with clients on building a vision for the future. Dr. Ramakrishnan draws from the field of positive psychology, or the science of human flourishing and thriving, to support clients in building positive emotions, positive thoughts and positive practices that establish the basis of well-being. She also draws from the field of self-compassion, which is the practice of treating oneself with warmth, kindness and understanding. Dr. Ramakrishnan also draws from Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, including teaching practices such as breathing meditation. Dr. Ramakrishnan additionally has significant training in evidence-based and skills-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. She has experience working with clients who are interested in integrating spirituality/religion into psychotherapy. Education and Certifications: Dr. Jyothi Ramakrishnan completed her doctoral training in Developmental Psychology at the Institute of Child Development, University of Minnesota and at the Clinical Science and Psychopathology Research Program, University of Minnesota. She has published research focused on psychological strengths that contribute to resilience, such as mastery motivation and positive emotionality. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Departments of Psychiatry and Pediatric Psychology at the University of Minnesota Medical School. During her predoctoral internship, she provided psychotherapy, diagnostic assessment and neuropsychological assessment to children, adolescents and families. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation residential substance treatment center in Center City, Minnesota, where she provided individual and group psychotherapy, and diagnostic assessment to adults. Prior to her doctoral training, Dr. Ramakrishnan received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Harvard University.
