Karen Mechanic, MD

Dr. Mechanic is board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology and board eligible in the subspecialty of consultation psychiatry which focuses on the psychiatric aspects of medical illnesses. She graduated from Yale College with a BS in Science and the Environment. After completing medical school at the State University of New York Downstate in Brooklyn, she trained for two years in Radiation Oncology before completing a psychiatry residency at Yale University where she also served on the faculty. She has over 20 years of experience in a wide array of mental health issues including mood and anxiety disorders. She has a wealth of experience in the treatment of patients (and their family members) who also have chronic medical illnesses. She has specialized in treating patients and family members of patients with cancer at Fox Chase Cancer Center and the Abramson Cancer Center at Penn. When not working, Dr. Mechanic enjoys listening to music and playing her violin in orchestral and chamber music groups.
