Everyone from age 1 to 100 desires a place where they can be known, held, accepted, and encouraged to meet their full potential. In my work that is the space that I aim to create to promote healing in children, families, and couples seeking therapy.
Philosophy & Therapeutic Approach
As a Marriage and Family Therapist I utilize family systems theory to understand people’s experiences. This means when I am trying to understand an issue someone brings to treatment I consider the way in which their family and other systems in their life have contributed to their development.
When working with with children, teens, and families I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), parent training, games, art, and toys. Using these means I assist them to develop stronger relationships, express hard emotions, and change distressing behaviors. With couples and adults I largely use a combination of CBT and Restoration therapy (RT). Using RT model I help people understand how violations of love and trust can lead to destructive relational patterns and in turn develop new messages about themselves that change the way they interact with others. It has been amazing to see the healing that can happen when people feel understood and supported emotionally by those who are most important in their lives.
Experience, Education, and Training
I have three years of experience working with children, teens, couples, and adults as a therapist. My areas of specialty are bilingual therapy (Spanish and English), children’s therapy, family therapy, and couples therapy. I have treated a wide variety of mental health issues including Post-traumatic stress disorder, Adjustment disorders, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in children and adults.
Concerning my education and training I received a Bachelor of Arts Double Major in Psychology and Interpersonal Communications with a minor in Spanish from the University of Washington. I went on to obtain my Master of Science in Marital and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary. I am a certified in Cognitive behavioral therapy plus and have received training in a variety of treatment models including Trauma-Focused CBT, Solution-focused therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT for Childhood Traumatic Grief, Restoration Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Play Therapy, and Mindfulness.
In my free time I enjoy doing arts and crafts, attending small group at the church I go to, dancing Zumba, and hiking. It would be an honor to be a part of your healing process!
