Psychiatrist in Round Rock, Texas, Lynda Parker, MD

Lynda Parker, MD

I graduated from C.W. Post College in Long Island, New York with a BA in Biology, then obtained an MA in Biology at New York University in NYC before entering Medical School at Cornell University Medical College, now named Weill-Cornell Medical College, also in NYC. I completed a Pediatric Internship at Cornell Medical Center before realizing that my interests were related to individual and family psychological responses to illness and trauma, as well as psychiatric conditions. This led me to complete a Psychiatric Residency at Payne Whitney Clinic, Cornell Medical Center. I remained on the Voluntary Faculty at Payne Whitney Clinic teaching and supervising medical students and residents for many years while maintaining a private practice combining psychotherapy with and without medication management, and while serving at different times as Medical Director of an Epilepsy Institute, a Psychiatric Day Program, and consultant to a maternity center for single women. I left New York City to pursue my love of teaching and direct patient care to become the Regional Chair of Psychiatry at Texas Tech School of Medicine in Amarillo. I have worked as Northern Regional Medical Director for Managed Correctional Health Services and treated incarcerated individuals. I have also treated active service members, veterans, and worked with Homeland Security in evaluating and treating women seeking residence in our country due to trauma. The experience of illness, trauma, anxiety, depression and loss can be understood and treated, no matter who we are or where we are.

My experience is truly varied, but I believe the unifying factor of psychotherapy which fosters a growth experience no matter what the specific condition or stressor is a key factor in augmenting medication treatment when necessary. In these days of the ultra-sophisticated technology of telemedicine and telepsychiatry, when possible, I prefer doing in office evaluations for therapy and medication treatment.
