Dr. Bernard earned an undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Georgia. She was awarded her Masters and Ph.D. in School Psychology at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Bernard completed her pre-doctoral internship with the Lewisville Independent School District, an APA-Accredited training site in Texas where she provided evaluation and therapeutic services to school-aged clients.

Upon completion of her training, Dr. Bernard returned to Columbia, SC. Dr. Bernard’s experience includes working as a school psychologist in Richland School District Two where she served preschool-aged students, as well as students with autism and developmental disabilities. Dr. Bernard then became Director of the Carolina Autism Resource and Evaluation (CARE) Center for the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs, specializing in the evaluation of Autism Spectrum Disorder across the lifespan. Most recently, Dr. Bernard spent over a decade working in pediatrics at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital. Dr. Bernard continues to serve as an adjunct faculty member for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program with the USC School of Medicine.

Dr. Bernard specializes in the psychological evaluation of children and adolescents, with particular interest in the assessment of toddlers and young children. Dr. Bernard has vast experience in the evaluation of Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disorders, learning disabilities, AD/HD, and emotional/behavioral disorders. In addition, Dr. Bernard provides therapeutic services to children and adolescents using a cognitive-behavioral framework to address anxiety, depression, selective mutism, adjustment issues, bereavement, and trauma. Dr. Bernard is trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
