Max Smith, LPC, offers empathy and genuine care to each client. He guides them to explore and process the challenges they bring to each session, and he puts them on path to the change they seek.

While he treats people of all ages, Max especially enjoys working with children, adolescents, and young adults. He supports clients struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral issues, mood disorders, and is especially skilled at treating:

Substance Abuse: Substance abuse brings numerous problem behaviors that can be modified with help. Max teaches clients to cope with stress in ways that help them recover and rebuild personal and professional relationships.

Grief: Grief counseling can help process feelings and cope with the physical, emotional, and social responses to loss. Max helps clients find a path to understanding and appreciating new life circumstances.

In therapy, Max utilizes CBT, Play Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused techniques to help clients achieve goals. He is passionate about breaking the stigma around mental health and strives to create a therapeutic space that promotes acceptance and growth for the client.

Max earned both an undergraduate and a master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University. He is also a National Certified Counselor.
