About Dr. Michael Murgo (he/him)Dr. Michael Murgo grew up in Merrimack, NH. He earned his BA in Psychology from Connecticut College and his PhD in Counseling Psychology from University of Miami (APA-Accredited). Dr. Murgo is thrilled to return to New Hampshire as a post-doctoral fellow at Lifestance Health. Prior to joining Lifestance, Dr. Murgo provided clinical services in university counseling centers, a Veterans Affairs hospital, a community mental health training clinic, and a residential treatment facility.Dr. Murgo’s approach to therapy draws on emotion-focused, psychodynamic, multicultural, and cognitive-behavioral therapies to help facilitate growth in his clients. Dr. Murgo helps clients understand how their emotions may relate to negative thought patterns, coping behaviors, attachment needs, and well-being. Dr. Murgo utilizes here and now process interventions to help clients work through emotions that arise in session and practice overcoming such challenges in-between sessions. Utilizing a relational, strengths-based approach, Dr. Murgo challenges clients to explore and improve themselves. Fostering a strong therapeutic relationship in a warm, supportive, non-judgmental environment is the cornerstone of Michael’s treatment. Dr. Murgo is also passionate about integrating a multicultural lens into his practice and understanding how systems of oppression (e.g., racism, sexism, heterosexism, classism, ableism) may impact mental health.Dr. Murgo provides individual and couples counseling to adults. Clinically, Dr. Murgo is especially interested in helping clients work through anxiety, life adjustment issues, relationship distress, sexual concerns, LGBTQ issues, stress management, self-esteem challenges, and stigma and discrimination.
