When a child is struggling, it is vitally important to uncover the correct cause. The process or journey should enable a child to take part and gain mastery over the issue. Equally important is identifying all those that should assist with the child an important part of the journey. Christine Garcia considers herself a provider and advocate, but mainly a facilitator. Identifying and negotiating all the settings your child is a part of, getting them to align are essential for a child to grow and flourish. This can only be achieved through open communication and active participation of everyone in this process.

Christine has an eclectic background. Her approach has been influenced by a nursing background in the care of children with special needs particularly in epilepsy. Developmental psychology and the attachment research have left their impressions, along with guidance of many wonderful mentors in the field of psychiatry. She has two master’s degrees The first was a master’s in psychology, obtained at the New School where she did research in attachment theory in the Mahler Laboratory.

The second was in Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, obtained at CUNY Hunter-Bellevue. Christine continued her specialization at NYU and received a Post Masters’ Certificate in the Care of Children with Special Needs. She completed this education in 2002. Her approach to treatment is primarily psychopharmacological. Her area of expertise is the care of child with anxiety and or depressive disorders as well as ADHD. She does not provide treatment for children with autism, eating disorders, and substance abuse disorders, as she believes these conditions are best addressed in a team approach.
