Active listening and a nonjudgmental approach are central themes to her collaborative method for forging effective therapeutic alliances. She is committed to understanding patients in the context of their current life and past experiences. After a comprehensive evaluation, feedback is provided about identified issues. The treatment plan is tailored to provide individualized care with an emphasis on shared decision-making to align with the patient s personal goals and the latest research.
Dr. May regards psychotherapy as a significant component of the treatment plan. She feels that every patient benefits from therapy. She incorporates components of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and supportive therapy into her practice to help patients reflect on and resolve their ambivalence to facilitate meaningful change. She is conservative in her approach to medication management, especially in younger patients. She excels in explaining medication actions and side effects in a clear and understandable manner.
Dr. May earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Villanova University after completing a Master of Science in Nursing degree in Nursing Leadership from Holy Family University. She attained additional post-master s education at La Salle University. She is double board certified as a family nurse practitioner and as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. She is also a member of the esteemed Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. May is an avid reader, and she is a fitness and nutrition enthusiast. She practices meditation, and she is passionate about travel. These personal interests contribute to her holistic approach to mental health, where balance and well-being are key elements for harmony and inner peace. She is proud to serve her community, where she continues to help her patients find resilience and serenity in their lives.
