Richard Rakos, PsyD

Dr. Rakos received his master s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Kent State University and his bachelor s degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He recently retired from his position as associate dean for faculty and program development in the College of Sciences and Health Professions at Cleveland State University, where he also was a professor of psychology. Dr. Rakos is widely published in the areas of assertiveness training, self-management, law and psychology, and cultural analysis, and is the author of Assertive Behavior: Theory, Research and Training. He also co-developed and authored clinical training programs on assertiveness training and behavioral therapy.

Dr. Rakos is a former editor and a current associate editor of Behavior and Social Issues, and served until recently on the editorial board of Law and Human Behavior. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and a member of the Association for Psychological Science, the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, the Association for Behavior Analysis International, the Ohio Psychological Association and the Cleveland Psychological Association. He has special expertise in the application of cognitive behavioral interventions in the treatment of children, adolescents, adults and couples experiencing difficulties with anxiety, stress, depression, self-control, obsessions, compulsions and social/interpersonal relationships.
