Karrie Ehlers, PsyD

Hello, my name is Karrie and I received my Doctorate in clinical psychology from Pacific University in Hillsboro, Oregon. I completed my APA accredited internship at the Montana VA Healthcare System in Helena, Montana in 2020 and I've been a licensed psychologist since 2021. I primarily practice using Gestalt psychology, which is a person-centered, holistic approach that focuses on non-judgmental awareness and the present moment. I also incorporate Buddhist psychology and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy into much of my practice, in hopes of helping others get clear about their own definitions of what is a rich and meaningful life, while cultivating the empowerment and compassion necessary for growth and change. My approach is collaborative and tailored to each individual, as I believe one size does not fit all and I aim to cultivate an environment built on trust, compassion, and respect. I also have been extensively trained in trauma-informed care and endeavor to incorporate this into my practice. When appropriate, I provide education about the science behind human behavior, neurological underpinnings of the human brain, and how this can inform the work we do together. I use peer-reviewed research to support the interventions I do and, while not at work, I often have my head buried in a book or I'm listening to podcasts to learn more about the human condition so I can then bring this knowledge to help you. Lastly, I have experience working with military Veterans, as I have worked in both the Portland and Montana VA Healthcare systems and endeavor to continue this work as a community-based clinician. I have a passion for working with Veterans to help navigate the transition to post-military life, PTSD, insomnia, chronic pain, or other challenges.
