Therapist in Ventura, California Regina Isaias, LMFT

Regina Isaias, LMFT

Regina Isaias is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in North Carolina who has been practicing since 2009. Regina is a therapist who specializes in working with first-generation working professionals experiencing anxiety and chronic stress symptoms commonly experienced when navigating a season of life that can be best described as “Too little for too long” or “Too much too fast.” These seasons in life often involve life transitions, with the impact compounded when there is a series of transitions with limited recovery time. Great examples of this include anxiety symptoms (headaches, digestive issues, behavioral avoidance sometimes captured as procrastination, intrusive thoughts, chronic disorganization) experienced by individuals when graduating from school and transitioning into launching a career, and BIPOC first-generation professionals navigating anxiety and burnout symptoms during multiple life transitions.

A great example of this is the life transition while caring for a family member; the anxiety and overwhelm symptoms associated with transitioning into parenthood while balancing career and family responsibilities, processing the impact of a medical diagnosis within the family (or self), and learning the skills to integrate symptom management while addressing the blocks and barriers that may have isolated an individual from engaging in life. Regina’s clients have described her as having a Mr. Miyagi approach when working with clients experiencing a relentless season of life. When serving clients, she walks alongside them and tailors her approach based on their needs and the direction they are moving towards. After 15 years of working with clients, her stance as a therapist is grounded in the research on ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), Trauma and Post-Traumatic Healing, Attachment, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and somatic therapies. Regina’s grounding principles are that each client has a lived experience that cannot be boxed into a label, and their work together is collaborative. That being said, diagnoses are helpful to capture the combination of symptoms and challenges an individual is experiencing, providing introductory frameworks that guide treatment.

Treatment is tailored to work with a client’s strengths, areas of needed support, and current goals. Families seen in therapy include those in various life stages such as expecting a baby, raising children, and caring for their aging parents. Individuals who have found her therapy style helpful include high goal performers, first responders, endurance/extreme sport athletes, and individuals who, on paper, are successful yet feel something is missing. Her practice is influenced by attachment, neurobiology, and research. Specialized trainings in Evidence-Based Treatments (EBT) include Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, individuals, and families (EFT, EFIT, EFFT).

At this time, she is centered on working with individuals experiencing challenges in multiple areas of life due to repetitive relational patterns in their personal, family, and professional relationships. Family therapy can be helpful during life transitions, periods of high stress, or when wanting to reconnect with each other. It is particularly beneficial for individuals feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns or disconnected from their relationships. Outside of work, Marital arts is part of Regina’s self-care practice, during your work together you may have some boxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu references.
