Mr. Carey obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Pre-medicine from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, and then went on to earn his Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in nursing from Regis College in Weston, MA. At Regis College, Mr. Carey completed the Family Nurse Practitioner track which encompasses all aspects of medical treatment across the lifespan.
Mr. Carey earned the American Nurses Credentialing Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. He is licensed in New Hampshire and Massachusetts as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), is licensed through the Drug Enforcement Agency to prescribe medications, and is credentialed with insurance and managed care companies to provide outpatient psychiatric care given his years of extended training and supervision in a variety of psychiatric settings
Mr. Carey has worked since 2009 treating individuals with depression, bipolar affective disorder, ADHD, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety, trauma, and addictions. He obtained his psychiatric experience working on an inpatient psychiatric unit, intensive outpatient treatment program, and two community based outpatient clinics. In addition to his work in psychiatry, he has worked in three primary care practices, as part of his Family Medical Nurse Practitioner training, treating people of all ages, ranging from newborn to geriatric, with a broad spectrum of medical and psychiatric conditions.
Mr. Carey specializes in psychopharmacologic evaluation and medication management. Aside from maintaining a generalist psychiatric practice, he is particularly interested in emerging treatments for depression and anxiety. He is also interested in an integrative medical approach to psychiatry, taking into account how a person’s general medical status and overall health can impact their mental health.
