Sarah Aafedt, PA-C
Sarah is a Physician Assistant in the Tulsa area and has over nineteen years of experience in the field of psychiatry. She was born and raised in Kansas where she first started working in health care and developed a love of helping other people with their medical needs. She attended Friends University in Wichita, Kansas where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Science in Human Services/Psychology in 2001. She graduated from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. In 2004, she and her family moved to the Tulsa, Oklahoma area to start her practice as a physician assistant. She has successfully worked with all ages in multiple outpatient psychiatric clinics across the Tulsa area. In 2013, she obtained her specialty Certificate of Added Qualifications in Psychiatry to support her commitment to working in the mental health field. In her years of experience, she has developed a special interest in working with children with various developmental and behavioral difficulties including those with ADHD, anxiety, autism, intellectual disabilities, sleep difficulties, etc. Not only does she provide medication management services, but she enjoys working with families in looking at other factors that play a role in their child’s wellbeing including but not limited to diet and nutrition, exercise, sleeping patterns, family relationships, and environment. She educates families and patients on what to expect with medication treatment such as what a medication can do to help versus what it cannot do. She says, “Medication is one of the tools to consider when it comes to treating a patient’s mental health but often is just a small piece to the puzzle in figuring out how to assist a child in reaching their full potential.” Sarah is married with three children. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, playing volleyball, scrapbooking, and cuddling with her dog Augie. Sarah takes a cooperative approach to mental health care and enjoys working at a facility that is strong with resources and collaboration with other providers. Sarah is currently accepting new patients for ASD, OCD, anxiety, and ADHD evaluation, ages 4-10 years old.
