About Sarah Bishop, MA, LCMHCA

Sarah graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in with her Bachelors degree in Psychology. After gaining experience working in a mental health community in Asheville, she decided to pursue graduate school in order to provide therapeutic services. She later earned her Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University.
Sarah works with children, adolescents, and adults. She has experience working with children in the foster care system, as well as adolescents and adults experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, and personality disorders.
Sarah is committed to providing trauma-informed care with each new client she meets. Her approach to therapy is largely influenced by Person-Centered Therapy, with interventions pulled from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Sarah believes that creating a strong therapeutic relationship, conveying genuine empathy, and providing unconditional positive regard for clients is incredibly important to creating positive change. Techniques Sarah uses to facilitate positive change include, but are not limited to: empathetic listening, reflective questioning, motivational interviewing, mindfulness exercises, emotional regulation exercises, and role playing. At the heart of her work, Sarah believes it is of utmost importance to collaborate with her clients in order to create the most effective individualized treatment plan for them.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys cooking, reading, exploring new places with her partner, and spending time in her garden with her pet chickens.
