About Shewonyui Lurker, MFTC

Penn works with ages 7 and up. When you meet Penn, you'll meet a genuine, compassionate, and caring person with a diverse cultural background. You'll feel comfortable in her non-judgmental, warm, gentle, and compassionate presence. You'll find a supportive environment, therapeutic connection, suitable treatment, and easily accessible coping skills to change your distorted thinking. You'll receive help to face the obstacles in your life and to reclaim it with empowerment and hope about your present situation and the future.

Penn loves working with children, couples, families, and individuals. Her philosophy is to motivate, encourage, create space for hope and safety, and practice with a deep understanding of how trauma impacts life quality. She uses an extensive range of counseling techniques and styles tailored for each client or group, and draws from evidenced-based interventions, such as motivational interviewing, reflective listening, CBT, mindfulness-CBT, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. She can help clients address many issues, including trauma, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (using the four stages of deployment for military personnel and veterans), depression, anxiety, abuse, spirituality/faith issues, marriage/relationship issues, postpartum mood disorders, loss, miscarriages, sexuality, identity development, and behavioral problems.

With a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Penn has experience working with people of all ages in community mental health settings.
