As a Licensed Associate Counselor for the State of New Jersey and National Certified Counselor, I have worked with diverse individuals and families with varying socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and marginalized communities. I enjoy working with clients to overcome stigmas associated with co-occurring disorders with mental health and substance use disorders. It is my responsibility and privilege to assist clients in developing a higher level of self-awareness and trust in themselves, others, and, just as important, their therapist. I work from a strength-based model; I believe there is no one theoretical orientation that fits all clients. Person-Centered Theory is just one theoretical orientation that I utilize to help clients understand how they view the world in an attempt to identify any distorted views of themselves. After understanding how the client perceives their world, I work with them to help them see how it hinders or may assist change. There may come a time during therapy when Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) would be most productive in working with the client, identifying how our thoughts determine our feelings and our feelings our behavior, merely changing irrational beliefs to more rational ones, can help elevate stress and pain. Together we explore the most effective way to accomplish goals, complement cultural considerations, and maximize growth during the therapeutic process. My experience began with Family and Marriage counseling while obtaining my doctorate in Clinical Christian Counseling; I counseled families, couples, and adolescents who desired a faith-based and therapeutic approach to life’s challenges. I continued my studies graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University, obtaining my Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. It is my responsibility to help reinforce growth as a counselor, challenge decision-making, and assist in determining current goals and helping problem solve. By working with all communities and maintaining a non-judgmental attitude during the therapeutic process, we establish respect and positive regard for one another. When I am not curled up with a book or watching a good movie, I enjoy traveling with family and friends or planning our next adventure.
