Elizabeth Alvarez-Nyante, Therapist

Elizabeth Alvarez-Nyante, MSW, LCSW

Elizabeth Alvarez is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in California who has been practicing since 2006. Elizabeth has spent her 15+ year career working in Community Mental Health and College Counseling. Her previous roles include titles such as Bilingual Clinician, Adjunct Faculty and Director of College Counseling. Elizabeth loves the work she does and honestly can’t imagine doing anything else. At times, she has tried other roles, but the love and respect she has for people always leads her back to doing individual therapy.

Elizabeth practices from a Feminist Theoretical Orientation where the foundation of the work is the relationship you create. She practices collaboration with the individual in order to create both personal and social change. She also believes in demystifying therapy by examining the role of power in the therapeutic relationship. Elizabeth’s work is psychodynamic and pays attention to roles of attachment & interpersonal development. It is strengths-based and evidenced based such as in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy. Elizabeth gets excited when her clients work towards sitting in their darkness, learning from it and coming out of it. But best of all, you don’t have to start there, she will appreciate who you are every step of the way. Elizabeth identifies as Afro-LatinX, specifically-from Puerto Rico, raised and educated in Boston and uses she/her/ella pronouns. Elizabeth is bilingual: English/Spanish and has experience practicing in both languages.

Outside of work, Elizabeth enjoys home decorating, party planning, teaching herself to macrame, and spending time with her Goldendoodle, Abe. She is passionate about social justice issues.
