Emily Schomann, LPC

I hold a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Pacific University. I earned a Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in psychology from Western Oregon University in 2007. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with the state of Oregon. I have extensive experience and training treating youth and their families.

My philosophy of counseling is based on the belief that the client possesses the power to change, and that it is my role to help the client become aware of how to understand and utilize that power. I operate from a systemic approach in which I consider all the interactions a client is having with their family and community and suggest alternatives that might lead to the changes a client desires. I accept whatever goals and frameworks the client and/or family bring to sessions, and attempt to work within their framework to help folks achieve what they desire.

I work in English and attempt to be culturally relevant in my suggestions. Issues such as self-esteem, behavioral difficulties in school and/or home, divorce or separation, bereavement, drug and alcohol issues and difficulties in family communication are among the wide range of situations with which I typically work. I have specialized training in cognitive behavior therapy, strategic family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, motivational interviewing, gender-affirming therapy for transgender people, and foster and adoptive therapy.

In my free time, I enjoy being with my family and friends. Born and raised in Oregon, I have learned to love the rain and like experiencing what the Northwest has to offer. I also enjoy cooking, gardening, and playing with my two pups Dexter and Annie and my kitty Roxanne.
