Michelle Petmi is a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who believes that individuals are the experts of their own lives. She fosters an environment where clients can develop skills to manage difficulties and gain insight into their unique challenges. Trained in both medication management and brief psychotherapy, she helps individuals achieve their desired goals through a collaborative and personalized approach.

Michelle has experience treating a range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma-related disorders, and schizophrenia spectrum disorders. She has a special interest in working with young adults navigating life transitions, minority mental health, and individuals experiencing first-episode psychosis. From the initial evaluation, she prioritizes building a supportive and judgment-free relationship where clients can explore all aspects of themselves. When medication is indicated, she employs a shared decision-making model, encouraging active participation in creating a treatment plan tailored to each individual’s needs.

Michelle earned her undergraduate degree from the College of New Rochelle in New York and completed her graduate training at National University in California. She received extensive clinical training at Psychiatric Solutions Clinics, hospitals, and nursing facilities. With experience as both a Nurse and a Nurse Practitioner, she has provided psychiatric and mental health services in diverse settings, including inpatient units and skilled nursing facilities.

I’ve been meeting with Michelle Petmi for about 5 years for medication management, and she’s been a huge support for me. She explains everything clearly, answers my questions thoroughly and makes sure I feel comfortable and confident moving forward with any changes. She also takes time to ask what may be contributing to what I’m experiencing instead of just rushing through an appointment. I’ve never once felt dismissed. She takes my health very seriously, and it truly shows. Highly, highly recommend.

NP Michelle Petmi is amazing and extremely knowledgeable. I feel like our meetings are a very safe space to let her know how my meds are working and how they are making me feel and truly feel like I’m being listened do. With your feedback, she proceeds methodically and explains why she is doing what she is doing to help you, the patient, have an all-encompassing understanding of the approach you are taking with her. Cannot write enough to express my satisfaction with her as my nurse practitioner.

Michelle is very nice and personable. I've visited with her for over half a year now and she always remembers notes about my life that I make, which is impressive since we only visit every month. In times that I mention a certain issue that I'm facing, she has made very good recommendations for me, either healthwise or through prescription medication.
