Laura Seibert, Psychologist

Laura Seibert, PhD

Dr. Laura Seibert is a licensed clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist.  She earned her Ph.D. from the joint doctoral program through SDSU and the UCSD School of Medicine in 2004. She completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship through the University of Washington School of Medicine Departments of Psychiatry and Rehabilitation Medicine.

Dr. Seibert’s passion is helping individuals and families grappling with the challenges of life with a neurological or neurodevelopmental disorder, or other chronic medical conditions impacting quality of life more generally.  She spent the last 20 years of her career working with medical patients in hospital settings, initially with Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation in Los Angeles, and then with Sharp Memorial Hospital’s neurorehabilitation center. She has treated individuals over the full lifespan. Her adult work included conducting inpatient and outpatient neuropsychological evaluations and providing treatment for individuals with strokes, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and the full range of neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease; Parkinson’s Disease; frontotemporal dementia). Her pediatric work included performing diagnostic evaluations for autism spectrum and other developmental disorders, and intervening with children and/or their parents to optimize their academic, social, and emotional functioning.

Now with LifeStance, Dr. Seibert is devoted to treating individuals with a wide range of medical conditions impacting mental health, particularly those with neurological disorders. She treats anxiety, depression, grief, anger, and other emotional and behavioral challenges that often accompany living with a major medical condition or new disability. She uses cognitive, behavioral, and mindfulness approaches to treatment, tailored to the needs of each client. Supporting caregivers with their own emotional journeys is also an integral part of her work. When it would be helpful, Dr. Seibert teaches individuals cognitive strategies— whether to improve academic performance, or function better despite new impairments or declining skills. When appropriate, she also discusses lifestyle interventions that research has found may slow cognitive decline due to normal aging and/or disease. Her overriding goal is to help individuals learn or remember their inherent value and ability to find happiness, despite whatever differences or new challenges they have.
