Dr. Robert Herman is a board-certified psychiatrist and Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association with more than four decades of experience treating a wide range of mental health conditions across the lifespan. He earned his medical degree from the University at Buffalo and completed his psychiatry residency at New York University-Bellevue Hospital Center, followed by psychoanalytic training at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Throughout his career, Dr. Herman has served in academic and clinical leadership roles, teaching at New York University, Columbia University, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
At LifeStance Health, Dr. Herman specializes in psychiatric evaluation and medication management for children, adolescents, and adults. His clinical interests include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, trauma-related conditions, psychosis, and women’s mental health. He has experience in reproductive psychiatry, including caring for individuals navigating fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum mental health conditions, and postpartum psychosis. Dr. Herman is passionate about helping patients understand complex mental health topics and translating psychiatric research into practical, compassionate guidance that supports long-term wellbeing.
