Mario Ruiz, MSN, PMHNP, PHN, Psychiatry in Claremont, California

Before becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Mario proudly served 11 years in the United States Marine Corps, including multiple combat deployments. His military experience continues to shape his compassionate, mission-focused approach to patient care and provides him with a deep understanding of the unique mental health challenges faced by service members, veterans, and their families.

Mario treats adults ages 18 and older, including seniors, and commonly supports conditions such as ADHD, mood disorders including depression and bipolar disorder, and PTSD. His work often includes addressing sleep-related concerns, anxiety symptoms, and challenges connected to major life transitions. As a prescriber, he focuses on evidence-based medication management while incorporating clinical insight and education to help patients feel informed and empowered in their treatment. He also offers additional areas of focus beyond those highlighted.

A key passion in Mario’s practice is working with individuals who have been recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital. He understands the vulnerability of this transition period and prioritizes continuity of care, symptom stabilization, and relapse prevention. His approach emphasizes careful medication monitoring, clear communication, and coordination to help patients regain stability, reduce the risk of rehospitalization, and rebuild daily routines with confidence.

Mario is deeply committed to serving the veteran community beyond the clinical setting. He works closely with veterans to help ensure they receive the healthcare services and benefits they have earned through their military service. He also collaborates with veteran resource programs at five colleges and universities, supporting student veterans as they navigate higher education, access mental health resources, and successfully transition to civilian and academic life.

Mario serves diverse populations, including active-duty military members, veterans, first responders, and individuals with autism spectrum disorders, and offers care for additional populations as well. He practices at LifeStance Health and provides medication management with a calm, supportive, and clinically grounded style. He also speaks Spanish, allowing him to support Spanish-speaking patients more comfortably.

Outside of work, Mario enjoys traveling with his wife, exploring local restaurants, and spending time outdoors through camping, backpacking, hiking, and nature walks.
