Dr. Baston earned Doctoral of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Utah after completing a Masters degree in Psychiatric Mental Health from the Ohio State University.
After Dr. Baston completed his Masters degree, he moved to a community mental health center in Columbus, Ohio where he treated a severe and persistently mental ill population consisting of schizophrenia, bipolar, major depression, and post traumatic stress disorder. With the move to Utah, Dr. Baston began practice at the University of Utah at the College of Nursing. At the College of Nursing, he has taught psychopharmacology and psychotherapy to students in the doctoral of nursing practice (DNP) program, precepted DNP students, supervised undergraduate nurses, and provided guidance to social work students in a clinic setting. In clinical practice, Dr. Baston helped patients within the U Health System and worked at a clinic providing free mental health services to the uninsured. Post U Health System, Dr. Baston worked for outpatient clinic dedicated to research and emerging mental health treatments. In the clinic setting, he has treated adolescents to geriatric patients with conditions ranging from depression and and anxiety to psychotic disorders.
Dr. Baston takes a holistic and personalized approach informed by evidence-based practice to address patients’ concerns. He finds this approach helps to create a safe atmosphere for change and helps the patient in their journey.
