About James Williams (He/Him)

Dr. James Williams, PsyD, helps children, adolescents, teens, adults, and older adults build practical skills, strengthen resilience, and navigate life’s challenges with compassion and evidence-based care. At LifeStance Health, he works with individuals across Illinois who are seeking support for concerns such as anxiety, ADHD, depression, and other mental health needs. Dr. Williams takes a collaborative approach to treatment, creating a supportive environment where patients feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful progress toward their goals. A particular area of passion for Dr. Williams is supporting individuals who have been recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital. He understands that the transition back to everyday life can feel overwhelming and uncertain, and he is committed to helping patients develop stability, confidence, and a path forward during this important stage of recovery. Through individualized care, he helps patients identify strengths, build coping strategies, and establish sustainable plans for long-term wellness. Dr. Williams provides care for a wide range of mental health concerns and has experience working with anxiety, ADHD, and depression, while also offering support for additional emotional and behavioral challenges. He enjoys working with members of the LGBTQ+ community, individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and those with developmental disabilities. His therapeutic approach draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), among other evidence-based interventions tailored to each patient’s needs. In addition to therapy-related services, Dr. Williams offers psychological testing and neuropsychological testing services as part of a comprehensive approach to assessment and treatment planning. He believes that thorough evaluation can provide valuable insight into cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and developmental concerns, helping patients and families better understand their strengths and challenges. Dr. Williams’s academic background includes education through The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, National Louis University, Concordia University Chicago, Roosevelt University, and City Colleges of Chicago-Richard J. Daley College. As a Qualified Pre-License Intern, he is committed to ongoing professional development and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Williams enjoys electronic music production, training for short races, taking walks, photographing and filming nature, playing pool, and spending time with friends and family through board games and other shared activities.
