Sumita Chakrapani, MD

Dr. Sumita Chakrapani is a board-certified psychiatrist who provides compassionate, evidence-based care to children, teens, and adults across Washington. Practicing at LifeStance Health, she offers both individual therapy and medication management, tailoring treatment plans to address a range of emotional, behavioral, and developmental concerns. Dr. Chakrapani partners closely with patients and families to support emotional well-being, improve functioning, and build tools for long-term resilience. With a special focus in child and adolescent psychiatry, Dr. Chakrapani brings deep expertise in treating ADHD, anxiety, and depression. She supports young clients through challenges such as school avoidance, sleep disruption, emotional regulation, and behavioral concerns. Using a collaborative, strength-based approach, she integrates therapy with developmentally informed medication strategies when appropriate. Dr. Chakrapani also works with adults experiencing mood disorders, psychosis, postpartum anxiety, and trauma-related conditions. Dr. Chakrapani is especially passionate about supporting families navigating complex behavioral and emotional needs. She has extensive experience with children and adolescents in foster care or adoption settings and provides affirming, culturally aware care to neurodivergent individuals, including those with autism spectrum disorders. Her approach often incorporates parenting skills training, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy to strengthen relationships and promote emotional regulation. Outside of her clinical work, Dr. Chakrapani enjoys reading, practicing yoga, traveling, and spending time with her family. Her calm, attentive style and dedication to whole-person care make her a trusted partner for patients of all ages.
