Dr. Karen Klein, Psychologist

Dr. Karen Klein, University of Georgia, PhD, Counseling Psych

Dr. Klein knew she wanted to be a psychologist since the age of 14. She had always been a curious girl and loved figuring out problems and solving puzzles. When a friend’s sister, who was majoring in psychology, told her what that was and what a psychologist did, she knew that it was the right profession for her. She could help others and use those skills that seemed to come naturally to her. She achieved her BA in psychology at Boston University, an MEd in School Psychology at Worcester State College and her PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Georgia. Dr. Klein has worked with a wide variety of populations. As a School Psychologist she worked with children in the school environment. During her doctoral work she specialized in Couples and Family Therapy having a particular interest in Family Systems Therapy. Once she received her doctoral degree, she worked at the community mental health center in Rockland, Maine where she developed The Marriage and Family Clinic, training pre-doctoral students from all over the country in the Family Systems approach. She is now in private practice in Rockland seeing individuals, couples and families with a variety of problems such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder and relationship issues. She also visits several nursing homes in the area doing psychotherapy with elderly and disabled individuals. Dr. Klein has always viewed herself as a humanistic-existential psychologist, believing soundly in each person’s potential for growth and change.
