Dr. Gabriel Garza is a Psychologist in Maine who has been practicing in the mental health field conducting therapy and psychological testing with children, adolescents, and adults since 2012. During his training, Dr. Garza has worked in a university counseling center, the outpatient and inpatient branches of hospitals, a middle and high school setting, and in outpatient clinics conducting therapy and testing services. Dr. Garza does his best to connect with every client’s struggles, strengths, and interests to establish a safe and trusting relationship. Dr. Garza’s therapy work emphasizes cognitive-behavioral problem-solving through a multicultural and feminist perspective. His background in school settings and testing also helps him connect with kids/teens around academic and social struggles at school and help them and their families advocate for their educational needs if necessary. He uses a CBT foundation to educate about diagnoses, problem-solve around symptoms, and help the client build healthy habits. Where needed, Dr. Garza may help a client examine how the story they tell about themselves serves them or holds them back and provide support on any identity challenges that arise. With children and adolescents, Dr. Garza may coach parents to better connect with or give space to their child/teen to make daily life as smooth as possible. Outside of work, Dr. Garza is an avid birder and novice bird photographer, craft beer brewer, board game player, animal lover and cat owner, and astronomy enthusiast.
