Steven Simminger, PhD
My job is to help you in resolving the pain that brought you to therapy. We have to understand what makes you unhappy and why it has painful meaning for you. We will look for the source of the pain. We will look at what you may be able to do to change your behavior and thought process to resolve and escape the hurt. We may work on changing patterns of behavior that are unconsciously self-defeating. Sometimes seeing things from a different prospective changes a lot. Any changes you choose to make in your thinking or in your behavior is up to you. I value your autonomy. My approach is cognitive behavioral. I have had success helping people with a wide range of issues including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and anger management among others. I can work with those whose mental health issues are complicated by alcohol and drugs. I work with adults, including older adults. I also enjoy working with couples very much.
I am a licenses psychologist with over 40 years of experience providing psychotherapy. I obtained my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Rutgers University. For over 30 years I was the Director of Mental Health Services with a staff in excess of 150, while carrying a half time private practice. Since my retirement in 2012, I have been a staff psychologist at LifeStance. I have served on the board of the Philadelphia Society of Clinical Psychologists and been its treasurer. It would be a pleasure to serve you.
