Shealyn Cyr, MD is a board-certified Psychiatrist in Virginia who has been practicing since 2006. She completed her undergraduate work at the University of Texas at San Antonio, her medical school at Texas A&M University, College of Medicine, and her Residency at the University of Texas at Southwestern. Dr. Cyr believes in a balanced approach to psychiatric health through a model that integrates medication, wellness techniques, supplements, cognitive behavioral therapy, and thorough medical evaluation. Dr. Cyr specializes in the treatment of aging and older adults and is an expert in the field of geriatric psychiatry, to include diagnosis and treatment of dementia and cognitive impairment. She is also a member of the North American Menopause Society and has expertise in the area of the menopause and the perimenopausal transition. She enjoys the practice of clinical medicine and chose psychiatry because she wanted a career that allows her to spend time getting to know her clients and understand their daily lives.

I greatly appreciate the treatment I have received from Dr. Cyr. She has established a treatment path which has resulted in significant improvement of both my physical and mental health.

Dr. Cyr is simply a fantastic and ethical psychiatrist. The way she practices Psychiatry is refreshing. Nowadays, the specialty has gain not the best reputation. A lot of psychiatrists move patients fast, in and out prescribing medications quite freely. Dr. Cyr takes her time with each patient, and does her work to determine wether the patient needs medication, what’s the right dosage, and follows a process that ensures the highest level of wellness on a patient, a doctor can provide. LifeStance Health has a great group of professionals, and outstanding customer service. One thing that is refreshing, is the patient portal where I can message Dr. Cyr with questions or concerns. Her response is not only in a timely manner but is fast and effective, she is always in the lookout for any messages from patients. If you are looking for 5 minute consultation and a pill pusher, Dr Cyr is NOT for you. If you are looking for the highest level of care a psychiatrist can give, and with a very ethical approach, then Dr. Cyr is for you.

The world is a better place with Dr. Shealyn Cyr in it. I am unable to express enough gratitude for Dr. Cyr’s proactive approach, solid and straightforward scientific approach towards pharmacology, her genuine sincerity and interest in your life, her outward compassion, witty humor, intelligence, insight, experience, commitment to herself her family and her patients, not to mention her level of professional integrity. Her ability to maintain the hyper focus, discipline and dedication required to listen, process, evaluate and “read between the lines” during every session of ours has literally changed my life in so very many ways. Dr. Cyr is an incredible psychiatrist who truly takes the time to listen. She is personable, compassionate, and a strong advocate for women’s health. After experiencing dismissiveness from other physicians regarding my perimenopause symptoms, Dr. Cyr not only acknowledged my concerns but took them seriously. She recommended genetic testing to better tailor my medications, which turned out to be an invaluable source of information for both of us. This approach helped us establish a new, more effective baseline for my treatment. I’m so grateful to have found her and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a thoughtful and proactive psychiatrist!

Dr. Cyr is the best psychiatrist I have worked with in my life (and I am a therapist so I am picky). She is knowledgeable, warm/friendly, understanding, and genuinely wants to get down to the root of what is happening with mood, sleep, energy etc. She is the first psychiatrist who has taken the time to go over gene testing to look at what medications are the most helpful. She also has been instrumental in getting my perimenupause under control in relation to my moods, temperature regulation and sleep. I highly recommend her to not only friends but also my own patients.
