About Kathy Deford (She/Her)

Kathy Deford is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Delaware who has been practicing since 2011. She has an M.A in Counseling. Kathy has been employed in the mental health field for 20 years in a variety of settings, including as a therapist in a partial hospital day program, and working with veterans needing mental health treatment. She also has had significant experience with clients needing substance use treatment and their families. Kathy believes the process of therapy is one of collaboration and cooperation. When a person is reaching out for help, there is obviously a problem, but there are usually other factors that enter into their situation, not just their particular problem. One of Kathy’s first interventions is to learn about all the parts of a person’s life and how they are affected by the current problem. Coping suggestions and techniques can then be discussed to not only help alleviate the problem, but also improve overall life functioning. Outside of work, Kathy enjoys hiking, watching old movies, and reading biographies.
