Brenda Canales, Therapist

Brenda Canales, LCSW

Brenda Canales helps adults and older adults navigate life’s challenges with compassion, clinical expertise, and a collaborative approach to care. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at LifeStance Health, she provides therapy for patients across Maine who are seeking support for anxiety, depression, and substance use concerns. Through individual therapy, group therapy, and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) services, Brenda creates a supportive environment where patients can build resilience, gain insight, and make meaningful progress toward their mental health goals. Brenda is particularly passionate about helping individuals work through alcohol and drug use issues. She understands the complex emotional, behavioral, and relationship factors that can accompany substance use and recovery. Her approach focuses on meeting patients where they are, reducing shame, strengthening coping skills, and helping them create sustainable changes that support long-term well-being and personal growth. In addition to substance use treatment, Brenda works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, and significant life transitions, including midlife and later-life changes. She recognizes that major transitions can affect emotional health, relationships, and self-confidence, and she partners with patients to develop practical strategies for managing stress and moving forward with greater clarity and purpose. Brenda utilizes evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), while offering additional therapeutic interventions tailored to each individual’s needs. Since beginning her clinical practice in 2016, Brenda has been dedicated to helping patients achieve meaningful and lasting change. She earned her education from the University of Central Florida and Polk State College. She is also able to provide care in Spanish, helping broaden access to mental health services for diverse communities. Outside of her professional work, Brenda enjoys spending time with friends and family, watching shows, listening to music, and engaging in activities that help her unwind and maintain a positive outlook. She believes that balance, connection, and self-care are important components of overall wellness. Whether you are seeking support for anxiety, depression, substance use concerns, or life transitions, Brenda provides personalized mental health care for adults and seniors throughout Maine.
